ReeRee beats VeeVee (again) for Doha title.

Well, unfortunately, injured VeeVee couldn’t get past also injured ReeRee, I’m happy that she got to the finals as I’m sure not only me but many thought that she wouldn’t even win a match. It’s also fitting that the world number 1 is undefeated this year in Doha. Doha is also ReeRee’s first non slam title since 2004- not very surprising at all and she’ll also end the year as the number 1 for the first time since 2002.

Serena also got a big cheque for her effort of playing well for more than 8 weeks of the year.

Also unsurprising was ReeRee’s decision not to play in the Fed cup, I’m shocked that she was even considered to play in the first place, it’s in Italy on clay by far her worst surface and she hasn’t played for the Fed cup since 2007, she didn’t help get the team into the finals so I don’t see why she should be allowed to play in the final, it’s kind of a slap in the face for those who got the USA there in the first place it’s like saying  ‘thank for doing all the hard work and getting the USA to the Fed cup finals but were’s replacing you with Serena for the finals because she is better than you’. I’m glad that she’s not playing it’ll give her time to prepare for next season and for the other american girls’ star to shine.

And then there were two.

1 11 2009

It’s an all  “>williams final in Doha and there is no imploder of the day today as every player tried their best to win, even Woz, who unfortunately had to retire at the beginning of the second set, 1-0 up but a set down and Serena looked not at her best.

Before Doha, I don’t think many people thought that Venus would be in the final (including me), I’m still trying to work out how to she got past JJ playing like she did. It’s impossible to pick a winner they are both injured and both have been inconsistent during their matches, picking Serena just because she hasn’t lost isn’t a good idea as she might not ‘turn up on finals day’ and I’m not sure how she’ll cope beating Venus twice in the same tournament or how Venus will cope if she loses.

Just a little hint for who I want to win

Venus Williams

Venus with her first tour championships trophy in 2008

Unfortunately the ReeRee and VeeVee couldn’t find that little extra to win their doubles match, they won the first set but were a break down in the second which they couldn’t recover, they were up a mini break in the super tie break but couldn’t hold onto their advantage and found themselves a mini break down which was all that the spanish duo needed, they will face Cara Black and Liezel Huber-who are the defending champions- in the final.

Marat Safin disappointed himself, his fans, his bandwagoners and everyone who thought he would win a title after his australian open triumph in 2005.  pre=””>Sergiy Stakhovsky proved too much for Safin, it’s a shame as Safin beat Stakhovsky 6-2-6- 4 last year in the same tournament in the round of 32, Safin just couldn’t stay in the match when it got to crunch time (serving to stay in the set) . I can see Stakhovsky winning the title but he’ll have to go though Horacio Zeballos who crushed another russian’s hope-Igor Kunityn’s- in straight sets.

In Vienna, Tipsarevic disappointed me in a three set loss to Melzer who will face Cilic who beat Philipp kohlschreiber in the final, believe it or not I can see Melzer taking the title.

In Lyon, I suppose it could be called an upset if Simon had actually beaten Michael Llodra in any of their 3 previous meeting but he hadn’t and the result was no different and as i expected with Llodra’s good form as Llodra (now ranked 107)  upset Simon (4)6-7, 6-3, 7-6(1) to face Ivan Ljubicic who he has met once and beaten once but I pick Ljubicic to win this one.

Doha day 4: Imploder of the day award goes to..

30 10 2009

Vika the nutcase who has also won the imploder of the day award on day 3, well it was not as bad as her implosion against Woz as she held match point then but it was in a way just as bad because she was serving for the match twice at 5-2 and 5-4, Radawanska was shanking balls and looked disinterested in the match, then Vika handed her the break of serve and Aggie realised that she could win, unlike her opponent, she didn’t falter whilst taking the lead, Vika had several points to force a tie-break at 5-6 in the second set and couldn’t close it out, Aggie only needed one set point to take the match the distance and there were tears from Vika, 1-4 down and 15-40 down during her own service game Vika called it quits and in a way handed another victory to Wozniacki, even though I don’t like Vika I would of liked to see her in the semis line up any other day than seeing Woz’s name there, so please Serena turn up and beat that kid back to Denmark otherwise she’ll be joining the battle of the real number 1’s soon.

On a side note, congratulations are in order for Sveta, even though she’s out, it’s the first time since 2006 that’s she won’s a match at the tour championships, she beat Lena D 6-3 6-2 to deny her a place in the semi finals. Can the williams hold it together for the first ever all williams WTA tour championships final? I hope so, cause a JJ vs Woz final is just another sign of how shit women’s tennis has become and is just another desparate cry for Screamapova , Henin, Clijsters and Hingis (the latter has said that she is not returning )
